Kati’s journey from migrating to the U.S. at the tender age of fifteen without her parents to becoming a licensed lawyer is a testament to her resilience and dedication. Growing up in Novato, California, she balanced her studies with work as a babysitter, retail, and restaurant employee during her high school years. This early experience of juggling responsibilities laid the foundation for her strong work ethic and determination.

Her academic prowess shone brightly when she graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz, before diving into the world of community organizing. Kati’s passion for making a difference in the community transitioned into a focused pursuit of law, leading her to USF Law School. There, she not only immersed herself in the intricacies of the legal world but also worked with the Privacy Legal Team at DoorDash, Inc., showcasing her keen interest in privacy law.

In May 2023, Kati graduated magna cum laude from law school, a significant milestone that underscored her academic excellence and her ability to overcome challenges. She took the July 2023 California Bar Exam, and her hard work and preparation were rewarded when she passed, marking her transition from a diligent law student to a licensed lawyer.

Kati’s passion for technology innovation and diversity is a driving force in her burgeoning legal career. Her enthusiasm for cutting-edge technological advancements and her commitment to fostering diversity are at the forefront of her career goals.

Her profound interest in technology innovation is not just about understanding the legal frameworks that protect new inventions and creative works but also about being an active participant in the conversations that shape the future of technology. Kati is particularly drawn to the ways in which privacy law intersects with the digital world, advocating for policies and practices that safeguard individual rights while promoting technological progress.

Diversity, for Kati, is more than a buzzword—it’s a crucial element for driving innovation and empathy within the tech and legal communities. Her belief in the power of diverse perspectives fuels her dedication to mentoring first-generation law students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in the legal field. Kati knows firsthand the challenges faced by those who navigate the legal profession without a traditional support network and is determined to be a source of guidance and inspiration.

Kati’s involvement with the Privacy Legal Team at DoorDash, Inc. has provided her with practical experience at the intersection of technology, law, and privacy. This role has not only honed her legal skills but also deepened her understanding of the importance of privacy protections in the tech industry—a sector that thrives on innovation but also faces significant ethical and legal challenges.

Looking forward, Kati aims to contribute to a legal landscape where technology and diversity are embraced as essential components of success and innovation. She envisions a future where legal professionals are as diverse as the communities they serve and where technology is developed and governed by laws that reflect a broad spectrum of human experiences and values. Through her work, Kati is committed to making this vision a reality, leveraging her passion for technology and diversity to inspire change and drive progress in the legal field and beyond.

Kati’s story is not just one of personal achievement but also a reflection of her desire to contribute to the legal community and support those who are embarking on a similar path. Quote of the week

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage’s whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
